Manchester United transfer news: New midfielder linked; Zaha's likely loan club revealed

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from Old Trafford…

With Christmas Day now behind us, the speculation surrounding Manchester United’s winter transfer dealings has ratcheted up another notch.

Today’s reports are a mixture of old links and fresh faces, so starting with a familiar name, the Mirror reports that United will bid £30million for Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke on New Year’s Day.

Yes, when most people are nursing a hangover and sleeping off the previous day’s celebrations, David Moyes is tipped to finalise a deal for the 21-year-old who is said by many to be the answer to his midfield problems.

The report continues that having watched him twice in recent weeks, Moyes was suitably impressed to sanction a January deal. The only problem is, Koke has recently stated his happiness in Madrid, so only time will tell.

The same paper reports that Wilfried Zaha could be on his way to Cardiff City on loan…if Malky Mackay does not get the boot as is being widely speculated.

The two Scots are said to be close friends, and Moyes reportedly favours a loan move to the Bluebirds for a winger who has failed to stake a claim for a regular starting birth at Old Trafford.

However, if Mackay does lose his job, Zaha is set to move to more stable surroundings.

And finally, the Daily Star reports that Moyes has made Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana his number one target (didn’t the Mirror say that was Koke).

Considering the Saints’ recent progress, the fact that Lallana appears settled on the south coast and that he is pushing for a World Cup place, this one seems more fanciful than likely. But we only have a few days until the rumours could start becoming reality…or otherwise.
