It’s been an eventful year for Manchester United, but what would be the best gift for the club this Christmas ?
1) Robin van Persie back fit
The Premier League’s top scorer for the last two seasons is currently out injured, but is said to progressing well in his recover from a thigh injury. Manchester United fans and boss David Moyes will be hoping to get the gift of good health this festive period, as they hope for the Dutchman to return for their trip to Hull on Boxing Day.
2) A world-class playmaker
Failing that, perhaps the best gift for the boss and the fans - and pretty much everyone in the team - would be a world class midfielder in the January sales. Manchester United failed in their pursuits of Cesc Fabregas and Ander Herrera this summer, but they’ll be hoping to revive their season with the arrival of a maestro to compliment their outstanding forward line next year.
3) Wayne Rooney to renew his deal
Talking of outstanding forwards, Wayne Rooney’s contract enters its final year in 2014, and after such an impressive return to form and fitness this term under David Moyes, everyone associated with the club will be hoping the England Number 10 puts pen to paper on a new deal as soon as possible.
4) Marouane Fellaini to come good
Manchester United's signing of Marouane Fellaini on deadline day this summer has yet to fully fulfil its promise, but we all know the big Belgian is a quality player with a lot to offer – he just needs to get fit and gain some form and confidence.
5) A title under David Moyes
Finally, the best thing for Manchester United would be for the new boss to get his first trophy under his belt - to send a message that his era will be just as glorious as that of his predecessor. Whether it’s a cup or surprise title win, it would lift the whole club and give the new manager the confidence he needs for continued success.
