Three key stats ahead of Chelsea's clash with Swansea

Fernando Torres

Chelsea go into their Boxing Day clash against Swansea just two points off top spot and could still finish 2013 in first place.

Here are three interesting stats:

1. Away day Blues

Amazingly, no Chelsea striker has scored an away goal in 2013.

Can you imagine a strike force as short on goals as Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto'o ? Even West Ham's forwards could give them a run for their money...

The Blues, of course, will face Swansea with home advantage - but this particular statistic will still leave Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho short of confidence in his strikers.

2. Two in nine

The Swans have striker problems of their own, however, with their undoubted star of last season, Michu, ruled out for three months with inury.

Swansea manager Michael Laudrup's woes extend furthermore when you look at Swansea's recent results. In their last nine league games, they have won just twice.

Away from home, meanwhile, Fulham are the only side Swansea have beaten since September, so the omens bode well for Mourinho and his Blues.

3. Contrasting fortunes

Our final stat provides some significant revelations about the competitiveness of the Premier League this term.

Indeed, while Chelsea had accumulated two less points by this point last season than they have so far this campaign, the Blues find themselves a place higher in the table, in third.

Swansea, however, have less points than they did this time last year - and are also three places lower in the league table.

Can Chelsea capitalise on the Swans' inconsistent form this term ? Or will Laudrup's side spring another surprise on Boxing Day ?
