Tim Sherwood has been a huge fan of Tom Carroll's for years and despite being sent out on loan to QPR this season, the appointment of Sherwood is likely to please the 21-year-old midfielder.
Speaking in 2011:
''He could play for them [Barcelona], no question,'' Sherwood said. ''He's got the lot. He's technically good enough, sees a pass, can pop it round the corner and only Jake Livermore (now at Hull City) runs more than him in a game.'
''He's one of those who has needed a bit more time to develop physically, he could have got released and I'm sure there are lots of Tom Carroll's who have been released. He's never going to be a giant but he will grow and hopefully not look like the mascot anymore''
The player is currently enjoying a fruitful loan spell at Queens Park Rangers and will more than likely see the season out playing in the blue and white hoops. But, I certainly wouldn't be shocked to see Tom Carroll playing a major role in next year's Tottenham side, if of course Sherwood is still in the job.
Carroll has recently been capped by the England U21s and has impressed enough to earn the reputation as one of this countries top prospects. I
t's not been all plain sailing for the youngster, who had to endure criticism for his performances and ability whilst on loan at Derby County in 2012. But, you can't argue that the player has shown superb character to bounce back and build his reputation back up.
A truly exciting prospect and one that Tottenham fans could be watching week in, week out next season.
