Tottenham latest: reaction to Sherwood appointment as Lloris looks to build

Some of the latest stories involving Tottenham Hotspur this Christmas Eve.

Tim Sherwood was yesterday given the job as Head Coach of Tottenham Hotspur yesterday and much of today’s news is reaction to the appointment.

Harry Redknapp has told TalkSport that he believes the new Head Coach will have the final say over transfers and thinks the Spurs board have made ‘a great decision’ by giving the job to the former midfielder.

Redknapp said: ‘It’s going to be interesting to see how he works with a sporting director but I know he will stand up for himself. If he doesn’t want a player then that’s where the problems may begin, if he’s forced to have someone he doesn’t want.

‘Tim has far more football experience than the previous manager had. He’s been a top player and captained Blackburn. He’s been coaching with the Under-21s so he’s not short of experience.’

Goalkeeper Brad Friedel has said the appointment of Sherwood was the best choice for the club and has said the new Head Coach has already brought some positive energy to the first team.

Friedel told TalkSport: ‘He’s very knowledgeable about the game and more so than that he is knowledgeable about Tottenham. He knows it inside out at all levels, from the youth all the way through to the first team, and he knows what the chairman will expect of him.’

Hugo Lloris has told the Tottenham website that he hopes the side builds on the second half performance the team displayed in the 3-2 win at Southampton.

The Frenchman said: ‘We showed a lot of positive things for the future.

‘It was important to win because now we have two games at home to try to make the difference and try come back into the top four.

‘We have to continue [this form] and work together because the Christmas period is very important.’
