Liverpool morning news: boss tips Sterling for recall, Suarez praise for manager

Some of the stories involving Liverpool Football Club on Christmas Eve morning.

Following last night’s result at the Emirates Stadium, Liverpool go into the games against Manchester City and Chelsea over the festive period top of the table on goal difference from Arsenal.

In other news, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has tipped young winger Raheem Sterling for a recall to the England squad.

Sterling has played in each of Liverpool’s last five league games and has shown signs of maturing and improvement having found the net on three occasions.

Rodgers is quoted in several papers saying: ‘He’s got every opportunity [of going to the World Cup]. He’s done very well for the under-21s when he’s played. I think if you look at a number of the English players playing for us - there was Jordan Henderson and the level of his game at the weekend. The likes of Raheem. I think this is a place where the young players are growing and developing and that will benefit England and Liverpool as well.’

Luis Suarez has praised manager Brendan Rodgers shortly after signing a new long-term contract at the club, and also admits he has trouble understanding his daughter growing up on Merseyside.

Suarez said: ‘I think Brendan Rodgers is a very good coach – he loves to speak with players for their confidence.

‘My daughter goes to nursery and she speaks like a Scouser – I don’t understand when she speaks to me in English.’
