Arsenal fans have been Tweeting about a number of topics ahead of the game against Chelsea this evening.
Arsenal have been challenged. The Gunners have seen their Premier League lead slip this past weekend and if they lose to Chelsea this evening, they’ll have gone from first to fourth in no time at all.
However, Arsenal have home advantage, they have a great team with a great manager and they have a chance to throw down a real marker of intent as they look to take the Premier League trophy back to North London.
It’s a match which has got plenty of fans talking and several Gunners have been chewing the fat ahead of the game on Twitter, debating a number of key areas and topics of general excitement ahead of the game this evening.
So what have they been talking about?
Do Arsenal need to pray?
Only Everton have conceded fewer goals this season and while Manchester City and Liverpool have both scored more goals, that defeat to Aston Villa on the first day of the season remains Arsenal’s only home defeat this season.
Eyes will be on Arsenal’s German wide man and forward.
Podolski has been missing for a very long time and his return has been eagerly anticipated.
He may not start the game but he stands a very good chance of coming off the bench as an impact player and Arsenal could be chasing the game.
If we show the following I think we win tonight....1. Belief 2. Desire 3.gotta take chances we create. #afc— Robdagooner (@RobWoodfin1) December 23, 2013
Arsenal shouldn’t have any problem creating chances but this Tweet hits the nail on the head; they have to be taken.
This could be a game where genuinely good chances are few and far between because a Jose Mourinho Chelsea is likely to make this gritty and very difficult.
A win would send down a huge statement of intent against a side fighting against Arsenal for the title.
While a defeat would not be the end of the world, a win would prevent the stale and cliché criticism of Arsenal as not being good enough to win the title and beat the big teams in the modern era.
How much of the challenge this evening is going to be a mental one?
Mourinho does have a very good record against Arsene Wenger and that will weigh on the Frenchman’s mind. It works both ways and will make Mourinho equally as determined to maintain that record.
After nullified performances this season against both Manchester clubs, it is a big night for Ozil.
The bigger sides try harder to keep him quiet but he has to do more in the face of being challenged. Is there any chance of him becoming a big player who goes missing in the big Premier League games?
