Spurs defender backs Sherwood for permanent job - hidden agenda?

Benoit Assou-Ekotto has pledged his support behind the caretaker getting the vacant role at White Hart Lane.

Tim Sherwood recorded a 3-2 win over Southampton on Sunday in his first Premier League game in charge of Tottenham as their caretaker manager.

Despite the growing list of potential candidates to replace Andre Villas-Boas at White Hart Lane, the former midfielder should not be discounted just yet.

One fringe player at Tottenham to throw his weight behind Sherwood’s permanent appointment is Benoit Assou-Ekotto.

The Cameroon international, who is on loan at QPR, praised the caretaker boss on Twitter, as well as congratulating Emmanuel Adebayor on his scoring return to the Spurs first-team.

With Tottenham’s left-back position not set in stone, the African defender may well be looking to return to his parent club to fight for a place.

Regardless of this, if Sherwood can string a run of victories together in his tenure in the hotseat, there is every chance that he could be handed the job on a permanent basis.
