Flashback: Forest fans react to Derby County hiring Steve McClaren

Steve McClaren

We take a rewind to a few months back as Steve McClaren's Rams equal Nottingham Forest's club record.

When Steve McClaren was appointed as Derby County's head coach on 30th September, the laughs from Nottingham could be heard all around the Midlands and supporters took to internet forums, Twitter and Facebook to publicly mock the former England manager.

At the time, Derby County had just sacked Nigel Clough for a bad run of form, that eventually ended with a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

Derby were left stranded mid-table, 7 points and 9 places of rivals Nottingham Forest and when the announcement that Clough's successor was going to be former Nottingham Forest failed manager Steve McClaren, the Forest fans thought they were in a dream world.

Fast-forward to present day and the laughs and smiles have been well and truly wiped off the faces of Reds supporters, who have had to watch in awe as a free firing Derby County leapfrog them in the league.

Steve McClaren has won 9 of his first 11 games in charge of the Rams and is currently on a run of 7 consecutive wins.

A run that has now matched Nottingham Forest's club record of consecutive wins which the Red's set in 1921.

With Derby County in such good form and currently 7 points above their rivals, we take a look at what Forest fans said when the 'wally with the brolly' was initially hired.
