On the 23rd December 2012 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Chelsea, Aston Villa, Liverpool and Arsenal.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 23rd December 2013, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 23rd December 2012…

Chelsea were gr-eight

Chelsea dealt out an absolute thrashing at Stamford Bridge - with Aston Villa the unfortunate recipients.

The Blues bagged eight goals in a 8-0 thrashing with Fernando Torres, David Luiz, Branislav Ivanovic, Frank Lampard, Ramires (2) and Eden Hazard all finding the target - in a game where Lucas Piazon made his Premier League debut.

Daniel, when I first saw you

The terms were reportedly agreed on a move that would see Daniel Sturridge make his way to Liverpool from Chelsea.

He was said to be undergoing his medical on this day a year ago as Liverpool and Chelsea ironed out the final details that would push this deal through.

He eventually did become a Liverpool player on the 2nd of January once all the finalities were completed.

First Klaas option down the Jan

Reported Arsenal and Liverpool target Klaas Jan Huntelaar ruled out a move to the Premier League - by signing a contract extension with Schalke 04.

The Dutch international striker’s deal in Gelsenkirchen was set to expire in the following summer - so interest was mounting in his services.

But in the end he decided a Bundesliga stay was right for him - thankfully for any interested party, as he has been injury ravaged ever since signing his new deal.

"But now I have made the decision, in which I have the best feeling. I've always felt comfortable at Schalke, the club and its fans."
