Five players Tottenham should be glad they DIDN'T sign in the summer

We look at the Barcelona, Manchester United, Dynamo Kiev, Aston Villa and Santos players that Tottenham Hotspur may have dodged a bullet on.

So we are about to exit the 2013 stage of the 2013-14 season and enter into a new year - so we were wondering if there were any players that Tottenham were linked with this summer, that Spurs fans will be glad they didn’t sign.

Sure they will be glad they got hold of some big names like Christian Eriksen, Paulinho and Vlad Chiriches, and pretty upset at the return of big money signings Erik Lamela and Roberto Soldado - not to mention the departure of Gareth Bale- but who are they glad didn’t come through the entrance door at White Hart Lane…

Ibrahim Afellay

The Dutch international fell out of favour at Schalke last season, but Barcelona wanted to do it again this season.

But he had to have thigh surgery not long after Spurs were linked with signing him - and he only recently returned to full training.

This would have been a waste of time, money and effort.

The Manchester United midfielder was linked with several departures in the summer - one of which was to White Hart Lane.

Just what Spurs would have needed, another underperforming midfielder.

Younes Belhanda

Anyone who was anyone wanted a bit of Younes Belhanda this summer gone - Spurs were just one the queues of clubs waiting to pick him up after he declared a wish to leave Montpellier.

But in the end he shocked Europe by joining Dynamo Kiev.

But Ukraine are fine to keep him. He has played a full game just three times for the club

Christian Benteke

Again the Aston Villa man was hot property this summer after a superb debut season with the club.

However he eventually decided to sign a new deal at Villa Park … thankfully.

The striker has only scored four Premier League goals - and hasn’t scored since netting in September.

One day he will make a great signing, but for now, this was a good miss.

Leandro Damiao

A long-term target of AVB’s he was again linked with Spurs in the summer.

But a deal didn’t come to fruition, again thankfully.

He spent most the season injured and when he was fit he wasn’t scoring goals. Now he has agreed to join Santos in January.
