5 shots, 2 goals: Arsenal target shines as United possibility flops

Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid carried on their assault up the league thanks to a brace from Arsenal target Diego Costa, but Manchester United target Koke did not have a game to remember.

Atletico Madrid ran out convincing winners but it was Levante who struck the first blow with a goal inside the first minute through Andreas Ivanschitz.

The midfielder exploited a gap in the Atletico defence before scoring an unlikely goal from a tight angle which seemed almost impossible. It wasn't until the half hour mark that the title challengers were able to get a foot hold back into the game.

Spanish international Juanfran swept in a delectable cross than was gladly met by the head of Diego Godin to net his first La Liga goal of the season. At half time it was Levante that went in the happiest out of the two sides, but it was only 2 minutes after the restart that Atletico were able to wipe the smiles off the Levante supporters.

Diego Costa made an intelligent run inside the box to get on the end of a Gabi free kick and excellently took his chance to put Atletico 2-1 up.

However, delight for one Premier League target turned out to be a nightmare for another when Manchester United's wanted man Koke gifted Levante a way back into the match.

The impressive midfielder came up short and lost the ball to the speedy Nikos Karabelas on the half-way line. The left-back then drove half the length of the pitch before finishing superbly to bring Levante level and leaving the Atletico midfielder with his head in his hands and 8 minutes later found himself substituted.

A clumsy challenge on Juanfran saw Atletico win a penalty and it was Diego Costa again on the score sheet as Atletico went on to claim all three points.

It was Diego Costa that showed his match winning potential on the day and picked up the man of the match award for his efforts. A real deadly performance from the Brazilian-turned-Spaniard and despite only touching the ball 35 times, he was able to create two goalscoring opportunities and five shots on goal.

Arsenal fans can but only dream he will be doing the same in a Gunners shirt over the next half of the season.
