Manchester United fans react on Twitter to Rooney performance v West Ham

Wayne Rooney was simply outstanding against West Ham United yesterday afternoon.

Yesterday saw Manchester United continue their recent good run of results with a 4-1 romp over West Ham United at Old Trafford.

The performance saw several star performances from United players - Danny Welbeck scored again, Phil Jones was superb in central midfield whilst Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans excelled at centre-back.

But most of the attention from the game landed on the young head of Adnan Januzaj. The teenager, of no fixed abode, had another stirring performance out on the flank for United.

He danced his way around Hammers players throughout the game and even bagged a goal for his troubles. He also unfortunately dived in the game - which slightly tarnished his performance.

But while all these players were superb - none of them outshone the performance of Wayne Rooney, who was absolutely superb.

Rooney played off of Welbeck in an advanced midfield position and added that little spark of creativity and guile that has so often been missing from United’s performances in this topsy-turvy season under David Moyes.

He was sensational in the middle of the park - at the absolute heart of everything good from the United display and his stats prove it.

His 85% passing accuracy is certainly not to be shirked at. Either was his 100% record in the air.

He also bagged two assists, which goes to show he was not simply passing for passing sake - he was attempting to scythe the defence open at every given opportunity.

His most impressive statistic might just be the amount of touches he had in the game.

He was the only player to pass 100 touches in the entire game and his continual desire to be in possession of the ball made him an often impossible task to mark.

West Ham’s defenders did not whether to come out to him, and the midfielders couldn’t grasp him.

It was Rooney at his best.
