Federico Macheda, eat your heart out: THIS is a debut to remember!

Manchester United striker Macheda had a debut to remember, but Ajax teenager Jairo Riedewald went one better with a four-minute brace today.

There are dream debuts – such as the one enjoyed by Manchester United’s Federico Macheda back in 2009 – and then there is what happened to Ajax’s Jairo Riedewald earlier today.

With his side 1-0 down against Roda JC, and with just two minutes of normal time remaining, the 17-year-old debutant transformed the match with two goals in four minutes, propelling Ajax to the top of the Eredivisie as a result.

Riedewald only came on in the 80th minute, but by the end of the match he had a brace, a booking and instant hero-status.

The equaliser was a close-range tap-in, as he was first to the ball following a goal-mouth scramble. But his celebration suggested he was not done yet; he simply ran back into his own half and waited for the match to resume.

His celebration following his second was less refined, pulling off his shirt and being swamped by teammates both on the pitch and on the bench.

Quick reactions to stab home a Joel Veltman header from a corner means Ajax are now ahead of Vitesse Arnhem on goal-difference. Oh, and it is probably worth mentioning, Riedewald is a defender!

He is not the first teenager to snatch the headlines on his debut. Just ask the likes of Macheda how quickly you can turn from zero to hero and back again.

But he will be hoping this is just the start of a glorious career, even if for the most part he will be preventing goals rather than scoring them.
