Chelsea try to hijack deal for Brazilian left-back ... but fail - report

Gremio

Alex Telles has confirmed he will be joining Galatasaray in the winter.

When Jose Mourinho returned to the fold as Chelsea manager one of his former favourites would never have predicted what was to come. Ashley Cole has shown signs of decline in recent months and Mourinho has recognised that.

What has happened as a consequence is the decision to play Cesar Azpilicueta at left-back ahead of the England veteran - who looks set to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the current season.

With the form of Cole under scrutiny, and Azpilicueta a right-back by trade, the left-back position seems to be an area that The Blues are looking to improve.

The most recent link has been that with Southampton starlet and self-confessed Chelsea fan Luke Shaw.

The teenager would cost them well in excess of £15 million but has already proven he can handle himself at this level - after a tremendous 2013 for the 18-year-old.

But according to reports in Turkey, Chelsea re set to make a move for a different full-back - one you have probably never heard of.

Alex Telles signed for Gremio in January this year from Juventude and has been in great form for his new club since arriving.

He was widely expected to complete a move to Galatasaray in the winter - with a confirmed deal set to be announced in the coming days.

However Turkish reports claim that Chelsea were ready to hijack that deal - but have already failed.

Telles has confirmed he will be a Galatasaray player on his official Twitter account after confirming that he will be a Galatasaray player.

It is reported that Chelsea did try to bring him in at the last minute - before realising they would not be able to get a work permit for the player.

Now they may have to face him in the next round of the Champions League.
