Chelsea starlets at the double again ... but Vitesse drop points

Patrick van Aanholt and Lucas Piazon were on target for Vitesse Arnhem yesterday. However they dropped points and could go into Christmas in second.

Well this is now becoming a weekly pursuit, a hobby if you like, as the Chelsea farm club Vitesse Arnhem continue to remain thankful to the close relationship between respective chairmen.

Roman Abramovich is always willing to send his young stars out on temporary deals to the club in which Merab Jordania, a good friend of Ambramovich’s, was once heavily involved (he recently stood down as owner and chairman of the club after a boardroom wrangle).

At this moment in time they have a grand total of six Chelsea players loaned in to the Gelredome - and some of them are having a major impact on their season.

Yesterday was no different.

On this occasion it was the turn once again of the swashbuckling left-back Patrick van Aanholt and striker Lucas Piazon.

Van Aanholt, who recently received a first Holland call-up, scored after just six minutes and Piazon added to his impressive tally in the 41st.

The Brazilian now has a whopping 11 goals in 16 Eredivisie games and is already being talked of as a potential Eredivisie Player of the Season.

But Vitesse did blow a chance to go well clear at the top of the table. They conceded two second half goals at Heracles Almelo last night - with Bryan Linssen bagging a brace.

That result means they could finish today second in the league - should Ajax pick up a victory in their tie against Roda JC this morning.
