Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with numerous strikers in recent times – so the name Marco Borriello may have been lost in the midst of considerably more headline-worthy ones when he was tipped for a summer switch that never happened.
But now the Italian currently plying his trade at Roma is back in the headlines, and tipped for a January switch to White Hart Lane.
Football Italia is reporting quotes from the 31-year-old striker’s agent Carlo Cavalleri, who said the following to Sky Sports Italia:
“Marco is very happy in Rome and with Roma, but clearly the recovery of Francesco Totti and Mattia Destro from injury is reducing his space and he’d like to play more.”
The agent, who was interviewed during a visit to London, added, “His profile is very much appreciated in England, as they are looking for players like this. Being here in London I had the chance to talk to various clubs. Tottenham? Yes, they were among them.”
Saying that he would see what happens in the coming days, it seems the player’s agent is keen to move him on should the right offer arise; while it is no secret that Spurs are in need of a new striker to compete with Roberto Soldado.
Borriello netted 12 times in 28 appearances last season, but he has only one goal to date this campaign. So whether he is the ideal solution to Spurs’ goal-scoring problems is up for debate.
But it appears that at the very least, talks have taken place. Then again, that could be said of many clubs and many players…
