Now Liverpool have officially nailed down their inspirational frontman, they should use the marketing momentum gained to bring in more key players!
Liverpool FC took a huge step into restoring former glories yesterday when they agreed a long-term deal with inspirational striker Luis Suarez. At the minute you could argue nothing has changed at Anfield and it's business as usual. However, the message sent out by Liverpool signing Suarez is a big one and I believe that momentum should be used in January to bring in more key targets.
It's likely to take big money and bold decision making, but here are five players we think could be key signings Liverpool can make in January.
Mousa Dembele - Tottenham Hotspur
Raiding Tottenham for Mousa Dembele could be a good move by Liverpool in their search for a dynamic box-to-box midfielder. The Tottenham is often remarked by supporters as their 'general' and he has found life this season particularly tough under Andre Villa-Boas. The player may flourish under a new regime but Liverpool could move quickly on the player.
Marco Reus - Borussia Dortmund
If Liverpool could sign Borussia Dortmund's attacking star, it would send out an equally big message as pining Suarez down. Liverpool are looking like a side on the up, with momentum very much on their side. Dortmund on the other hand already look out of the title race and if rumours are to be believed Reus could be available for as little as £25 million, which is a bargain for his ability.
Juan Mata - Chelsea
Mourinho's style clearly doesn't have much time or place for the stylish Spanish attacking midfielder, but with Liverpool playing in their current style, they possibly do. Mata has been a huge player for Chelsea since his move from Valencia in 2011, but under Mourinho it looks like his time may be up. Liverpool could do a lot worse than signing a player with 18 Premier League goals and 32 assists.
Arturo Vidal - Juventus
Another possibility is Juventus's engine room, Arturo Vidal. The midfielder is one of the best box to box midfielders in the world and could be a huge signing for Liverpool, if they were able to make it happen. The Chilean international has 11 goals for Juventus this season and four assists, aside from that he has an impeccable defensive and passing record that more than matches anyone else in the division. He would take a lot of money, but he could be someone to put Liverpool on that next level of football.
Xabi Alonso - Real Madrid
Equally Liverpool could go in for their old fan favourite, Xabi Alonso. Despite being vastly experienced now, he can still knock the ball around with the best in the world. If Liverpool are looking to continue the buzz around the club, and bring in one of the most stylish players in the game then Alonso could well be the man for them.
The ball is very much in Liverpool's court now, they've made their first major step back to becoming one of the countries top clubs but are they willing to go further?
It would be criminal to sign Suarez up and show little ambition in the transfer market.
