An interesting set of statistics has been released showing the failed attempts of Premier League players to score from outside the box since the 2009-10 season.
Of the names on the illustrious list, Nicolas Anelka heads up the contingent with the most shots at goal in the Premier League over the last four-and-a-half years without one rippling into the back of the net.
Here are the players that make the list.
Nicolas Anelka 86
Marc Wilson 60
Tomas Rosicky 58
Matthew Etherington 57
Jay Rodriguez 54
Joe Cole 49
Wes Hoolahan 49
Jon Walters 48
The Frenchman spent the 2009-10, 10-11 and 11-12 seasons with Chelsea, before signing for West Brom in the summer following spells at Shanghai Shenhua and Juventus. Over the course of this time, 86 attempts to score from outside the box have been unsuccessful.
He has only managed seven Premier League games this season for the Baggies, and is yet to score for the club.
Another West Brom man takes second spot, with Youssouf Mulumbu having a staggering 73 shots from distance without scoring.
Another notable name on the list include John Arne Riise, who has become renowned for his thunderous shots from distance. However, it appears that the Fulham man’s aim is not as pinpoint as expected.
