Where's the money going? Fans back Arsenal to edge out Chelsea

Emirates Outside Night

Betting markets show the majority of fans are backing Arsenal to beat Chelsea on Monday.

The pick of the Premier League fixtures this weekend and Monday sees Arsenal hosting Chelsea in a mouth-watering London derby.

It’s a very important game for the Gunners because they have just been challenged in a big way by the 6-3 defeat they suffered at Manchester City last weekend.

Arsenal could well have seen their Premier League slip away by the time this game kicks-off on Monday night and if that’s the case, Arsene Wenger will be looking to his team for a big reaction.

It will certainly be interesting to see how Arsenal play and react considering they have held much of the power in the Premier League this season.

For Chelsea it’s a chance for Jose Mourinho to get one over on Arsene Wenger and a chance for the Blues to go ahead of the Gunners on points, as a Chelsea win would take them onto 36 points.

Matches like this are always big business for the bookies and any nervous fans ahead of the match would be advised to look at the odds to see where the cash and the confidence is going ahead of the game.

There has been a lot of money going on both sides for a direct win, but there is a little more confidence in the Gunners today with odds shortening for an Arsenal win in three places.

What that tells us is that more fans are putting money on an Arsenal win, which is causing bookies to shorten odds so they don’t have to pay out as much should the Gunners secure the three points.

It’s clear that fans aren’t expecting this to be a game similar to Tottenham against Liverpool last weekend, where one side ran away with a big win.

One of the most interesting trends and areas where a lot of cash is going is the winning margin market, with a lot of fans backing Arsenal to edge the game by a single goal.

Boylesports and Winner have both shortened their odds today for that bet, which suggests a lot of fans have taken advantage of early long prices on a slender home win for Arsenal.

Another interesting trend which has seen odds shorten is the first goalscorer market with Theo Walcott being priced in to score the first goal of the game, with BetVictor reacting to a pattern and shortening the odds on the Arsenal winger.

This won’t be an easy game for the Gunners at all but it seems that most of the confidence in betting markets is favouring Arsenal to win the match.
