An international team-mate has claimed that prominent Egyptian player is on his way to Anfield.
According to his friend Mohamed Zika, Liverpool and Mohamed Salah will be united in the upcoming transfer window as a deal has been agreed upon. King Fut offered a translation that quoted Zika to have said: 'Basically, yes. Inshallah (if God wills). He makes us and all of Egypt proud. Everyone talks about Mohamed Salah now. And aside from that he’s my friend, so I’m even happier for him.'
Valued at £7.5m by transfermarkt.co.uk, Salah, a right-winger by trade, is particularly effective in attack having returned four goals and five assists from 18 appearances in a wide position thus far this season in the Swiss Super League.
Two of his best performances this season, though, have not arrived in the domestic division, but in Champions League competition - against Chelsea, no less.
In September, Basel went a goal down to the Blues due to an Oscar goal on the 45th minute mark, however, Salah inspired the comeback. With 52 total touches of the football, completing three tackles, embarking on successful dribbles and drawing fouls, Salah restored parity with a 71st minute goal, ten minutes before Marco Streller pushed Basel in the lead so the club returned to Switzerland with the win and maximum points.
Two months later, in November, Basel - and Salah - showed it was no freak result as they beat Chelsea again. And again it was Salah who scored, this time with the game's only goal.
Just like at Stamford Bridge, Salah had a similar amount of touches of the football (54), was accurate with 80% of his passes, dribbled down the flank, completed tackles and was a deadly finisher.
Were these the performances that impressed Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers enough to negotiate a mid-season transfer? According to Zika, it's already done...
