Arsenal have been linked with some very good players this week as Arsene Wenger toys with the idea of strengthening his squad in the winter transfer window.

The Premier League leaders are in a very good position ahead of the weekend’s fixtures and they will have a good chance to stamp their authority once again on Monday night when they host Chelsea.

With the January window closing in all the time, we’ve taken a look at the top five players to have been linked with the Gunners this week.

1) Diego Costa (Atletico Madrid)

Costa would be a superb signing for the Gunners because he’d add a lot of quality up front and virtually guarantees a good goal tally.

Several reports this week have focused on the £32 million release clause in his current contract, suggesting that wouldn’t be beyond Arsenal if Arsene Wenger decided that he wanted to go after the Brazilian forward.

2) Angel di Maria (Real Madrid)

Spanish sources haven’t been very kind to the Real Madrid winger this week, suggesting that he’s very keen to leave Los Blancos when the January window opens.

One of the interested parties is apparently Arsenal and the Argentinian would be a fantastic signing for Wenger.

He’s provide goals and assists, as well as releasing one of Theo Walcott or Lukas Podolski to push forward into a central striker role as support to Olivier Giroud.

3) Iker Casillas (Real Madrid)

Reports this week suggest that Arsenal have been contacted about the Spanish goalkeeper, who has been offered to several big clubs.

However, Casillas cast doubt over a move away from Real Madrid this morning suggesting that he’s not interested in moving away from the Bernabeu.

That will be music to the ears of current number one Wojciech Szczesny who has been outstanding this season.

4) Konstantinos Mitroglou (Olympiakos)

This won’t be an unfamiliar name for a lot of Arsenal fans but the links over a possible move to the Emirates Stadium have finally been put to an end.

The Olympiakos striker has extended his deal with the Greek club for an additional year, taking his current contract to 2017 and signalling that it would be pointless for a side to move for him this winter.

5) Paul-Georges Ntep (Auxerre)

Arsenal have been linked with a move for the French striker starlet along with Serie A giants Roma, with a valuation being floated around of £8.5 million.

The 21-year-old has been linked with a North London switch for a number of months and he does have all the hallmarks of a traditional Arsene Wenger signing; youth, talent, potential and value for money.

The player himself has suggested that he wouldn’t be interested in a move where all he’d do is sit on the bench and not play.
