Tottenham fans react on Twitter to Adebayor performance against West Ham - Give him a chance, he's back!

Out of favour striker Emmanuel Adebayor grabbed Tottenham's only goal in a 2-1 defeat to West Ham in the League Cup.

Emmanuel Adebayor grabbed Tottenham’s only goal as Spurs went down to West Ham United at home for the second time this season.

Tim Sherwood opted to give the out of favour striker a rare start and he responded well, grabbing the opener but Tottenham weren’t able to protect their lead as the Hammers eventually clawed themselves back into the game.

It was a clever little piece of managerial work from Sherwood after Adebayor received a lot of criticism from Tottenham fans for a picture of him with Benoit Assou-Ekotto following the 5-0 drubbing against Liverpool last weekend.

It will be interesting to see if the former Arsenal and Manchester City man can now keep his place in the first team as the Premier League returns this weekend with a busy winter schedule lined up for the North London side.

There is every chance that Tottenham will need Adebayor as the games come thick and fast and it could be a final chance for him to prove himself ahead of the January transfer window.

Adebayor will be mindful that a new manager coming in could make big changes during the winter window and that could mean that the forward is sent towards the exit door if he doesn’t buck up his ideas and maintain some good performances.

He has been a very frustrating forward to watch during his time at Spurs because there are moments of skill and brilliance mixed in with lethargic and downright lazy performances which do attract him a lot of criticism.

The goal should give him confidence and if Sherwood decides to use Adebayor again in the near future, hopefully he’ll be able to show that he’s got a little left in reserve to come.

Here’s what Tottenham fans made of the striker’s performances via social media site Twitter.
