The Tottenham star was under a barrage of abuse from West Ham fans sticking the knife in over an old tweet the midfielder wrote when the draw was made.
Andros Townsend was at the centre of twitter storm due to a tweet he posted soon after the Capital One Cup quarter-final draw was announced.
The 22-year-old England star had posted;
Great win!! And the perfect draw in the next round #revenge— andros townsend (@andros_townsend) October 30, 2013
The tweet was directed at the tightly contested win at home to Hull City, which saw Tottenham qualify on penalties and Spurs drawing West Ham in the next round.
West Ham had not only beaten Tottenham at White Hart Lane earlier in the month of October, they embarrassed them. Goals from Reid, Vaz Te and Ravel Morrison ensured Big Sam was the happier manager after their bitterly contested London derby.
Drawing the Hammers at home in the quarter-final of the cup seemed like the perfect stage to restore pride, but once again, Tottenham were left embarrassed.
And none more so than Andros Townsend, who is currently being fed his words from that earlier tweet.
As it was one of the trending topics on tweeter, we've filtered out some of our favourites to bring to you.
And it went from bad to worse for Townsend, pulling up with an injury with 20 minutes left to play. Initial signs are showing that it's a hamstring injury that could keep him out for a few weeks, a huge blow to an already down spirited Spurs side.
