A round up of the latest news and transfer stories about Liverpool from the past 24 hours.
Brendan Rodgers says he is sure the future of Luis Suarez will take care of itself so long as the focus at Liverpool stays on the football. Talks started this week over a new deal for the striker and Rodgers has simply said that if Liverpool succeed and keep improving, he’s sure that Suarez will stay.
Rodgers has stuck up for Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay. Mackay was told by Cardiff owner Vincent Tan that he wouldn’t have a single penny to spend this winter. Liverpool face Cardiff this weekend.
“I find it incredible the talk about Malky. I worked in South Wales and I find it astonishing what he has been through. Malky walked into a club that had given him 10 players to start with and he is someone who totally transformed them,” he told reporters.
Rodgers has also spoken about his team plans and how they relate to star striker Luis Suarez. The gaffer has suggested that he wants to build his Liverpool team around the Uruguayan hit man over the coming years.
On the transfer front, Liverpool have reportedly contacted the agent of FC Porto star Fernando over a potential move. Reports suggest the club have told Antonio Araujo that they will do whatever they can to make sure Fernando becomes a Liverpool player.
One player Liverpool are unlikely to get their hands on is Barcelona defender Martin Montoya. Liverpool had been keen on signing the 22-year-old on a potential free transfer but reports indicate he’s ready to commit his long term future to the Spanish giants.
In other transfer news, there is good news for the club after Rodgers said that no one would be leaving the squad this winter. Daniel Agger has most recently been linked with a move away from Anfield, with Napoli reportedly keen on taking him on loan.
“In terms of players going out, we don’t have to move anyone out. If players aren’t in the team, they need to fight to get back in,” said the Anfield boss.
The comments also cast doubt over a possible winter transfer for forward Iago Aspas. Aspas has failed to win back his place in the Liverpool first team and Swansea City star Michu says he would welcome a link up with his fellow Spaniard if the Swans wanted to go after the Liverpool man.
In other news, Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has called on the team to build on their impressive win at Tottenham. Liverpool sent out a real message when they won 5-0 last Sunday at White Hart Lane.
“We showed what we can achieve when we play the football we want to play and all of us do our jobs – Tottenham is in the past and we now have to look forward,” he told the Liverpool website.
