Liverpool transfer news: striker's Swansea link as Lawrenson urges transfer action

Some of the key stories related to Liverpool in the news this morning, including transfers and looking ahead to their clash with Cardiff City this weekend.

Striker Iago Aspas may go out on loan according to a report in the Daily Mirror, with Swansea City said to be interested in the Spaniard.

Aspas has failed to make his mark since signing for Liverpool from Celta Vigo in the summer, and Swansea’s Michu would like to see his fellow countryman at the Liberty Stadium, even if it’s for the short term.

Michu said: ‘We [Swansea’s Spanish players] are hoping he can come here on loan. It would be a pleasure to play with him. Iago has had injuries, but he has quality. He deserves to play in the Premier League.

‘He has been unlucky. At Liverpool they have Luis Suarez and [Daniel] Sturridge, who have scored a lot of goals. Suarez is, along with Diego Costa and others, one of the best strikers in Europe.’

Ex-defender Mark Lawrenson has said that Liverpool need to strengthen in the January transfer window.

In his column for the Liverpool Post, he said: ‘I still think Liverpool need a central midfielder, a striker and a left-back in January.

‘Daniel Sturridge is out for a while, and Suarez can’t keep playing like this, can he?

‘Liverpool don’t want to jeopardise their good position by not being proactive in January. They could be able to prise a striker out of somewhere, especially if they continue to stay up near the top.’

In the same column, Lawrenson hailed Jordan Henderson for his performance at White Hart Lane on Sunday, and urged him to keep up his good form.

Goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has told the Liverpool Echo the result at White Hart Lane will mean nothing if the side doesn’t follow it up with victory against Cardiff at Anfield on Saturday.

‘We have to make sure we build on that performance and do the same things against Cardiff.

‘It will be another difficult game and we need to be focused on Cardiff. We are in a good position but we need to prepare correctly and keep this run going.’
