Tottenham are in action tonight in the Capital One Cup against West Ham United and Tim Sherwood takes charge of the team for the first time since the sacking of head coach Andre Villas-Boas.
Sherwood told the club’s website that tonight’s game is huge and wants to right the wrongs of the 3-0 defeat inflicted on them by the Hammers in the league in October.
‘We have to get out there on the front foot and impose ourselves as soon as we can.
‘We’ll have to be patient. They got bodies behind the ball that day and tried to catch us on the counter-attack. We just hope we can impose ourselves on them nice and early, get the crowd behind us and really be up at them.’
Emmanuel Adebayor may be in line for a return to the Spurs side tonight according to some reports having had a limited amount of game time – and being involved in some twitter controversy at the weekend.
Sigurdsson told the Tottenham website: ‘We all want to win something and when you look back at your career, you want to have those memories. That’s important to everyone who plays football, not just here at Tottenham. It’s a while since we won a trophy and we all want to change that.’
Townsend added: ‘We’re three games from Wembley so we know we’re close.
‘We really want to win some silverware this season and I think the Capital One Cup is a great place to start.’
Basel coach Murat Yakin has said he has had no contact with Spurs over replacing Andre Villas-Boas contrary to reports.
The Evening Standard reports that Yakin said to Blick: ‘I am enjoying my holidays. I have had no contact with Lazio or Tottenham.’
