Liverpool have reportedly opened talks with striker Luis Suarez over a new contract. The striker has been arguably the most important player at the club this season and reports suggest Liverpool will make him the highest paid player in the club’s history.

Manchester City will be sweating over the fitness of key defender Pablo Zabaleta today after the Argentinian pulled up last night with a hamstring problem. Zabaleta was forced off during the League Cup win against Leicester City and with Micah Richards out with the same injury, Manuel Pellegrini will have to consider his options in that position.
In transfer news, reports are claiming that Inter Milan have rejected an ambitious swap offer from Manchester United for midfielder Fredy Guarin. United are thought to have offered striker Javier Hernandez in a deal to beat Chelsea to Guarin, after several reports have claimed that a Chelsea deal is close.
Sticking with Manchester United, manager David Moyes has also revealed that no club has made enquiries over taking Wilfried Zaha on loan. Several reports have claimed that Newcastle United are leading the race to loan the youngster over the second half of the season.
A story which will interest a lot of Cardiff City fans and neutrals today relates to Cardiff boss Malky Mackay. Mackay has said he will not walk away from the club despite recently being blasted by owner Vincent Tan who said the gaffer wouldn’t have a single penny to spend in the January transfer window.
