Sergio Aguero will be a huge loss for Manchester City, but it's also an opportunity for Edin Dzeko.
The Argentine has been ruled out for up to eight weeks by manager Manuel Pellegrini, depriving City of their top scorer this season.
Pellegrini may be forced to play David Silva alongside Alvaro Negredo to make do for the time being, while Stevan Jovetic is also returning to fitness.
But another option for the Chilean could see a revival of a £27 million striker's Manchester City career.
Indeed, Edin Dzeko has looked set to leave the Etihad Stadium all season. A long list of potential suitors have expressed their interest, while Tottenham has most recently emerged as a likely destination.
Yet Aguero's injury could force both Pellegrini and the Bosnian to think twice about the forward's City future. A gap has quite clearly opened up in the starting XI - and Dzeko could be the perfect man to fill it.
The 27-year-old used his opportunity in the Capital One Cup last night to great effect, scoring twice to see City through to the semi-finals with a 3-1 win over Leicester. And, unlike in recent rounds, Dzeko can be more confident of being picked in the Premier League this weekend.
If the Bosnian can build up a head of steam and prove his worth to Pellegrini, the dynamic of his whole career may change for the better.
A move to Tottenham, meanwhile, may present less of an opportunity for the 27-year-old, with their current managerless plight and lack of service to their lone front men hardly providing great appeal.
As far as Dzeko's stay at Manchester City is concerned, then, Aguero's injury could not have come at a better time - and a chance has presented itself that the striker should not miss.
