Arsenal latest: Wilshere accepts FA charge, Messi 'could have signed' in 2003

All the latest news and gossip from The Emirates Stadium.

Gilberto Silva is in no doubt that his beloved Arsenal can overcome Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Arsenal seemingly paid the price for losing out on top spot in their Champions’ League group by being drawn against the reigning champions and potentially the best team in the world right now.

However the Arsenal Invincible believes they can do the job:

“I remember how everyone said Barcelona would win, but Bayern did a very good job and went through. Arsenal are having a very good season and they have the quality to progress to the next stage.”

The deadline for Jack Wilshere to accept an FA charge of making an offensive gesture has passed. The deadline was at 6pm this evening and it is being tentatively reported that he accepted the charge - but will appeal any suspension he receives from the incident.

The precedent for the offense would see him fined a small amount and banned for one game - although there is talk that his suspension could in fact be a two game length.

Mesut Ozil is not good enough to lead Arsenal to the title - according to Michael Owen.

The former Liverpool and Manchester United striker has already made it clear that he does not feel Arsenal have what it takes to win the title - despite their promising start.

But Owen believes:

“Despite people constantly telling me Mesut Ozil is world class, his inconsistency means that we only see occasional glimpses of real quality. His odd good performance is usually followed by half a dozen poor ones.”

Guillem Balague has revealed that Arsenal, quite startlingly, could have signed Lionel Messi as a teenager.

The Spanish football expert stated that Messi and Gerard Pique almost went to North London when Cesc Fabregas first made the switch:

“Messi could have signed for Arsenal in the past. He was in talks with them when they signed Fabregas. Arsenal had deals with Fabregas and Gerard Pique."

Apparent Arsenal target Nicolas N’Koulou has ruled out signing for Arsenal or any team in January:

“I am not a coward, I am not happy with what I have shown today. I could not leave like this. I owe a lot to this club which have trusted in me. It is important for me to get back on track and put the record straight before considering a departure.”
