Some sources have even suggested that the transfer is a done deal with Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport suggesting there is a simple complication holding the deal back from being made official.
The Italian website has today run a report which suggests that Guarin is preparing to say goodbye to his Inter Milan colleagues with only the details of various personal terms to be agreed before the deal can be announced.
“In a nutshell, we are practically at the details - for example, the duration of the contract for Guarin, probably three years plus one,” reads the report in Gazzetta.
That suggests that the fee has already been agreed behind closed doors, widely reported as £15 million, which would enable the negotiations over various personal terms to start so the deal can go through as quickly as possible next month.
Guarin would certainly be a top quality addition to the Chelsea squad considering the impact he’s had at Inter Milan and the experience he boasts on both the domestic and international scene.
However, if a deal is in place then it’s going to be a confusing transfer from the perspective of many Chelsea fans because it’s difficult to see what the 27-year-old would bring to the table that they don’t already have.
“All is not done in haste: there is a derby game to play – at the time will be announced the departure of Fredy,” adds the report.
That derby game between Inter and city rivals AC Milan will take place on December 22 and it’s only logical that if Inter are going to lose Guarin, they will try and get as many matches out of him as possible before he leaves.
So according to Gazzetta it all comes down to the finer details, which are tied up in the realm of personal details. If that certainly is the case then Chelsea have a very good player about to walk into their club and it’s only a matter of time before the news is made official.
