FC Basel coach Murat Yakin has confirmed that he has had contact with the north London club.
A 5-0 home defeat to Liverpool was the final nail in Andre Villas-Boas’ managerial coffin at Tottenham, with the Portuguese manager shown the door after the game.
Speculation is rife over who could replace AVB, with no shortage of potential options if the media is to be believed.
However, the first manager to confirm having been contacted by the north London club is FC Basel head coach Murat Yakin.
The St Jakob-Park outfit have seen their stock rise under Yakin, who has stated that he has heard from Spurs since AVB’s dismissal.
”I had no contact with Lazio, but with Tottenham, yes,” he told Swiss website 20 minutes.
Lazio were linked with Yakin earlier in the season, while the Basel boss seems to be one of the frontrunners for the post at White Hart Lane.
Spurs were eliminated from the Europa League by the Swiss champions last season, while Basel have also recorded back-to-back wins over Chelsea this term in the Champions League.
With former Spurs manager Christian Gross also originating from Switzerland and proving largely unsuccessful, comparisons are likely to be made.
