Why has Sagna not signed a new Arsenal contract?

The France international has made his gripes with the club clear – but it looks like his grievances have been remedied.

Bacary Sagna’s contract at Arsenal expires this summer, with the France international stalling on a new deal at the Emirates Stadium.

The right-back has been vocal in the recent past that he has had grievances with the north London club. Firstly, he was frustrated that the Gunners sold the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Alex Song and Robin van Persie. He also stated that he was ambitious and wanted to compete for honours.

However, with the north Londoners sure to be eager to extend Sagna’s deal, there is a case to suggest that the defender’s frustrations with the club have all been cleared up.

No major players left Arsenal in the summer; in fact it was the exact opposite, with Arsene Wenger smashing the club’s transfer record to bring Mesut Ozil to the Emirates Stadium.

With plenty of other top players being linked with a move to Arsenal, the Germany international may well be the first of a handful of top players to move to the club rather than leave it.

With the sale of major players for financial reasons due to the expenditure on a new stadium, this is no longer an issue, with Arsenal in a solid position on the profit and loss account.

As a result of a settled side, the Gunners sit on top of the Premier League table and have made it through to the knockout rounds of the Champions League once again.

With Arsenal as challengers for major honours this term, shouldn’t Sagna’s mind have been changed about the club?
