Gonzalo Higuain says the win over Arsenal has fired up Napoli's season.
Arsenal revelled in glorious failure against Bayern Munich last season, winning 2-0 away from home only to lose on away goals.
It meant they still exited the Champions League but in terms of a momentum boost it was simply essential.
The Gunners kicked on and secured a top four place after going on a winning run, when they had looked down and out.
Now the boot is on the other foot and Napoli are hoping to use their own near miss against Arsenal to their own advantage.
Rafa Benitez' side played a superb game to beat Arsenal 2-0 in the Champions League last week only to exit the tournament on goal difference.
The pain it caused Napoli was clear to see, illustrated by striker Gonzalo Higuain breaking down in tears after the final whistle.
The Italians followed up the fixture with another make or break fixture, a game against a resurgent Inter Milan.
Napoli had won just one of their last four Serie A games, including a 1-0 home loss to Parma and a 3-0 defeat to champions Juventus.
How they responded against Inter was likely to shape their season, and Napoli continued just where they left off against Arsenal.
They tore Inter apart 4-2, and it should have been five had Goran Pandev not missed a last minute penalty.
Higuain led the way scoring the first, with Mertens, Dzemaili and Callejon also netting.
The Argentine striker revealed after the match that the secret to their success was simply carrying on where they left off against the Gunners.
He told Mediaset Premium: "We hope to improve in the coming weeks. As we were instructed by Benitez? He said we needed to deliver as we did against Arsenal, we did and we won a great game."
Napoli are now eight points behind leaders Juventus in third, and the win continues to keep them in the race.
Both sides dropped out of the Champions League in midweek, with Juventus responding with a 4-0 win over newly promoted Sassusolo.
If Napoli have a chance of catching them, they will need to continue to seizing the initiative shown over the past two games.
If they do then they may just have a chance of catching the leaders and staying ahead of chasing pack Fiorentina and Inter in the battle for the all important top-three, and ensure another crack at the Champions League next season.
