Aston Villa 0-3 Manchester United: Tipped for the exit yesterday, saviours today

Villa Park Outside

Manchester United beat Aston Villa 3-0 at Villa Park this afternoon.

Reports this weekend suggested that both Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck could be set for the Old Trafford exit.  Perhaps they read said stories and wanted to show David Moyes what they could do, or perhaps it is mere speculation, but either way, the Manchester United duo fired their side to a much needed three points today.

A first-half brace from Welbeck was followed by a 52nd-minute drive from Cleverley, allowing United boss Moyes to breathe a huge sigh of relief after back-to-back league defeats.

Welbeck scored twice in the space of three minutes, first knocking in a rebound after Adnan Januzaj had hit the post, and then connecting with an Antonio Valencia cross.

Wayne Rooney set up Cleverley for the third and there was further celebration when Darren Fletcher was introduced from the bench to make his first appearance for United in almost a year.

The result means United are eighth in the Premier League, while Villa remain 11th.
