Transfer news from Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur.
Manchester United are set to make a move for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi. The combative midfielder is currently in the final year of his current deal with PSG and is valued at around £7 million. He is a regular for the French national team over the past 12 months and PSG have intimated a desire to keep him - but he is said to be concerned over his first-team opportunities as the team continue to target expensive talent.
The same report links United with a £20 million bid for Kevin Strootman - which seems ridiculous since he joined AS Roma for a similar fee just six months ago.
News from Canada now and the Toronto Sun has reported that Jermain Defoe has agreed a move to Toronto FC - that will make him the most expensive player in the history of Major League Soccer.
They signed Brazilian striker Gilberto yesterday but the paper believes the Defoe deal is done - it just needs to be announced in January - although he will not join until the end of the Premier League campaign.
The report suggests:
“The Reds are believed to be dropping as much as $10 million on a transfer fee to secure the services of a player they'll pay upward of $150,000 per week, numbers that will make Defoe the highest-paid player in MLS history.”
One player who could make the switch from MLS to EPL is Obafemi Martins. The former Birmingham and Newcastle United striker is being linked with West Ham United.
Currently with Seattle Sounders he could be released from the team’s roster in order to free up salary costs.
Fredy Guarin could be on his way to Chelsea. Manchester United are said to be looking at the Colombian while Spurs were keen in the summer.
However reports today suggest Chelsea are the front runners for his signature.
The German under-21 international has been in exceptional form this season and is expected to be a transfer target for many clubs come the start of the winter and summer windows.
Bayern Munich are also keen.
Finally and a deal confirming the arrival of .Toni Sanabria at Arsenal is in the process of being finalised The 17-year-old Paraguay international is arriving from Barcelona following in the footsteps of Cesc Fabregas, Jon Toral, Hector Bellerin and Julio Pleguezuelo.
