Manchester City latest: Defender hints at exit; Pellegrini on Aguero injury

All the news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad this weekend…

It appears the opponent does not matter – whoever faces Manchester City at home in the Premier League, the Blues invariably steamroller them.

Such was the case when Arsenal visited the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, and Manuel Pellegrini’s men promptly beat them 6-3.

Goals from Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Negredo, David Silva, Yaya Toure and a brace from Fernandinho saw the Blues narrow the gap on leaders Arsenal, despite the Gunners replying through a Theo Walcott double and one from Per Mertesacker.

Speaking after the match, Fernandinho told Sky Sports of his pleasure at scoring, and his thoughts for the matches ahead.

I am really happy to score twice, but it is not just about the goals, (it’s about) the performance of the team,” he said.

This Christmas period is strong. We have a lot of games but I think our team is prepared to play very well.”

It was not all good news for City and their fans, with Aguero potentially being ruled out until the New Year with a calf injury.

In quotes published by ESPN, City boss Manuel Pellegrini said, “We will see him with the doctor, maybe he has some problem with his calf, but I don’t know at the moment how many weeks (he will be out for).”

And finally, the rumours linking Aleksandar Kolarov with an exit are back, with the defender reportedly telling the Sun he would like to return to Serie A in the future.

I have seen stories about me going back,” he added, “although I have not spoken to anyone about it.

I’ve been playing more since Manuel Pellegrini’s arrival. But let’s see what happens.”
