Liverpool and Arsenal fans woke up this morning to reports linking them with Hoffenheim winger Kevin Volland.
The 21-year-old is a left-footed winger who plays on the right for his club – and while that is an experiment that works better with some players than others, with Volland it appears to be the perfect position.
Reports in the Mirror last night claimed the player could be available for around £12million, despite being under contract until 2017.
But if every goal adds value – and every goal against one of the best clubs in Europe adds even more – Volland may have just increased his asking-price.
The German under-21 international scored his side’s second goal in a 2-2 draw with Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, showing composure to slot the ball into the far corner.
The goal put Hoffenheim 2-0 up, and although Jurgen Klopp’s men fought back to take a point, Volland looked every inch the star he is tipped to become.
If he really is available for the price reported, surely both Arsenal and Liverpool will be tempted to make a move if not in January, then certainly next summer.
