Report: Napoli on trail of Spurs flop

Erik Lamela

According to Sportmediaset, Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has his eye on Tottenham midfielder Erik Lamela.

Erik Lamela made his name at Roma last season but has failed to settle in England and there are rumours that he could head back to Serie A with Napoli.

To date, Lamela has only managed one goal and three assists in 12 games in all competitions for Tottenham.

Manager Andre Villas-Boas has called on fans to be patient and cited the 'massive lifestyle change' as the cause of Lamela's malaise.

However, there are reports from Sportmediaset that rather than work through his problems in London, Lamela could join Napoli.

The Partenopei are looking to strengthen to maintain their flagging Serie A title challenge.

After the disappointment of a harsh Champions League exit, club owner Aurelio De Laurentiis stated that his side needed reinforcements and Napoli are expected to add to their numbers in January.

Sportmediaset admits that Lamela would be the dream signing for Napoli and the chances of a permanent deal may be slim, but a loan could be on the cards in January.

The Azzurri may have to fight Spanish giants Atletico Madrid for Lamela's services.

Napoli are also being linked with Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi and Aleksandar Kolarov from Manchester City.
