After having a fantastic opening 40 minutes, just like he has had a fantastic first few months of the season, French star and defensive stalwart Laurent Koscielny was stretchered from the field following a challenge on Alvaro Negredo that led to Manchester City's second goal.
The centre-back had slid in to try and stop the Spanish striker getting his shot away, and to add insult to the fact Negredo managed to find the net, Koscielny suffered an injury as a result. Suffering what looked like a nasty cut to his knee, both Arsenal and City medical staff covered the players injured leg with a towel while he was taken from the field in some considerable pain.
Arsenal have since confirmed the French international has suffered a 'severe laceration' to his knee - which could take a while to recover ahead of the busy Christmas schedule.
Thomas Vermaelen came on to add to his meagre Premier League appearances this year, but if the injury is as bad as it looks Arsenal may see their title challenge suffer.
Koscielny has played a big part in the outstanding partnership with Per Mertesacker that has been the foundation of the Gunners' title form. Everyone will be hoping for good news from the medical team.
