Match to be played on Sunday 15th December 2013 at 16:00. Venue: White Hart Lane, London.
Tottenham will be looking to go level on points with Liverpool this weekend when the two sides meet at White Hart Lane.
Tottenham haven’t produced some of their best football at home this season but they go into the game on the back of a solid away win at Sunderland and a good win over Anzhi Makhachkala in the Europa League.
Andre Villas-Boas has a few selection dilemmas to decide on but here is the side he could go with for the clash against Liverpool.
GK – Hugo Lloris
Lloris is one of the most consistent and active goalkeepers in the Premier League. He’s very hands on with the defence in front of him, which allows Tottenham to deal with runners from deep more effectively.
RB – Kyle Walker
Walker is one of the best English right-backs around. Defensively he does a good job in the back four and he’s fit enough to go up and down the right wing throughout the match.
CB – Michael Dawson
Dawson is a key figure in the back four because he provides leadership. He’s one of the in form English centre backs at the moment and he’ll be crucial in the heart of the defence for the rest of the season.
CB – Etienne Capoue
With Younes Kaboul and Jan Vertonghen both likely to miss this game with injury, it means Capoue may have to continue in the heart of the defence. He’s a defensively minded player so he shouldn’t have a problem coping against Liverpool’s attack.
LB – Danny Rose
Rose returned to Tottenham’s defence against Anzhi and was taken off at half-time as a precaution so he would be available to play at left-back in this this game. His pace will be vital for Tottenham in terms of the counter attack.
RM – Andros Townsend
Townsend can provide a lot of pace down the right of the team. He’s confident running at the full back and is very dangerous when he’s given the chance to cut inside onto his stronger left foot.
CM – Paulinho
Paulinho will more than likely play a box-to-box type role in this game. He can drop off to protect the defence when Tottenham are under pressure but he’s also good enough to get forward, providing a threat in attack.
CM – Moussa Dembele
Dembele will be the midfielder asked to sit inn the middle of the sides and pull the strings. AVB will want him to link the defence with the midfield and the midfield with the attack, keeping an eye on the more influential Liverpool players in the middle.
AM – Lewis Holtby
The German deserves the chance to start this game because he was superb all over the pitch against Anzhi. He does thing simply and in matches against tough opponents, sometimes the simple passes can be the most effective.
LM – Aaron Lennon
Lennon will compliment the pace of Rose nicely on the left hand side, providing similar sort of threats to Townsend. He’s an extremely good player on the move, putting the defence onto the back foot.
ST – Roberto Soldado
Soldado has to start this game after bagging a hat-trick in the Europa League. He seems to be getting close to somewhere near his best and should be confident of taking any half chance which falls his way.
