Back when Manchester United were debating bidding for Robin van Persie 18 months ago, supporters were nervous despite his impressive goalscoring record.
For he also came with an injury record to be scared of, ones which have reared their ugly head again this season.
David Moyes confirmed in his afternoon press conference ahead of the weekend clash with Aston Villa that Van Persie sustained a thigh injury after coming on as a substitute against Shakhtar Donetsk in midweek.
It's a particular blow ahead of the busy festive period, considering he had been rushed back from a toe injury to face Newcastle United at the weekend.
Van Persie's former fitness coach Raymond Verheijen criticised David Moyes' training methods earlier in the season and again last last month - branding the Scotsman a 'dinosaur'.
This latest injury adds credence to those moans, and also places increased pressure on Wayne Rooney. It is time for Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez to step up, with neither finding their shooting boots on a regular basis this season.
United are already missing key midfielder Michael Carrick, and presently sit in ninth in the Premier League.
The injury has caused a lot of anger among United supporters, blaming manager David Moyes for his mishandling of last season's top goalscorer.
Meanwhile Arsenal fans who had to watch as their former striker won the Premier League last season, now look back amused as United flounder and Van Persie returns to the kind of injury record which ruined six out of his eight seasons at the Gunners.
Here is a look at how both sets of supporters reacted on Twitter to the big news:
Gutted RvP out injured again hopefully we are going to get more than the one good season out of him #MUFC— Chris Harris (@chrisdecharris) December 13, 2013
We've been cursed its friday the 13th and RVP is out for a month #MUFC— RVP 20 (@rvp_2015) December 13, 2013
How is RVP out for a month? This just can't happen! #MUFC— #JustLoveMUFC♥ (@nyira_lydie) December 13, 2013
Moyes' handling of RvP has been dodgy from the start. "Overtraining" him in the summer and now bringing him back too soon.— Scott (@R_o_M) December 13, 2013
RVP injured means more playing time for Welbeck...Exciting times....... #MUFC— SAF Army UTD (@SAFArmyUTD) December 13, 2013
How is RVP getting injured Moyes fault? Some of you are just fishing for excuses to get rid now! Was Rooney's cut his fault too? #MUFC— Manchester United (@OldTraffordReds) December 13, 2013
It's Moyes' fault RvP is injured because someone came up with a theory that Moyes' training methods are "intense"? Haha, don't be a sheep.— Red (@ThatBoyGiggsy) December 13, 2013
I bet Moyes is just sat in his office now, pondering the RVP injury thinking 'I wonder if that old bastard Fergie left any scotch about!'— Alex. (@almacca93) December 13, 2013
When it rains, it pours - eh, Van Pursestrings @Persie_Official ? Hope you're fit in time for the relegation battle.— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) December 13, 2013
Good old injury prone RVP is back... How badly I missed him...#AFC— Jithesh Pöthera (@JithuGunner) December 13, 2013
