Liverpool latest: Reds interested in Draxler? Tottenham Hotspur build up

A round up of the latest news and transfer stories connected to Liverpool.

Liverpool have been boosted with the news that Steven Gerrard could return to action earlier than first expected. News broke earlier this week that Gerrard was out for four to six weeks but Brendan Rodgers is hoping to have him back within the month.

“He’ll go through an extensive treatment programme over the next numbers of weeks and hopefully we can get him back that little bit sooner,” he told the press.

Gerrard is of course missing for this weekend’s game against Tottenham Hotspur but there has been good news for the Reds with the news that Jordan Henderson has shaken off a slight knock and should be fully fit to play.

Former Liverpool player Jamie Redknapp has said that Luis Suarez does have it in him to fire the club into the Champions League.

“There's no reason why he can't shoot Liverpool into the top four if he can maintain his current form,” wrote Redknapp on Sky Sports.

Champions League football is exactly what the club should be aiming for according to defender Mamadou Sakho. Sakho joined Liverpool from PSG last summer and insists that the main aim for the club this season is a top four finish and the chance to play in Europe’s top competition next season.

In transfer news, Brendan Rodgers is reported to have checked up on German youngster Julian Draxler. The Schalke star has been strongly linked with moves to Chelsea and Arsenal with the Mail reporting that Liverpool are ready to enter the race to sign him.

Liverpool remain linked with Manchester City youngster John Guidetti with sources suggesting a potential €6 million January bid for the forward. He hit 28 goals and produced 23 assists in a recent loan spell with Dutch club Feyenoord.

In other news, Liverpool defender Kolo Toure says his move to Anfield has given him a new lease of life. Toure linked up with Liverpool when his contract expired at Manchester City at the end of last season.

“It’s more than what I expected. The fans are unbelievable, the manager is great, my teammates are fantastic and everyone around the club has been really supportive,” he told the Liverpool website.

Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel has fired up the war of words ahead of the Premier League clash against Liverpool this weekend. The American says Spurs are getting Liverpool at a good time considering the injuries to the current first team squad at the club.

However, former Liverpool player Jan Molby has taken a stab back at spurs, suggesting they lack the flair they have produced in recent seasons. Molby has questioned whether Tottenham have the quality of player who can hurt Liverpool this weekend.
