David Villa has stated not for the first time that he was very close to joining Arsenal in last January's transfer window. According to the Spanish international the Arsenal offer was on the table, but Barcelona blocked it.
"Arsenal's offer was very good for the club and great for me, but they (Barcelona) did not deem it feasible for me to leave at that time. I was told that I was needed," Villa told Canal+.
Both sides have won 13 of their first 15 league games. Atletico Madrid have also progressed through to the last 16 of the Champions League and David Villa has scored 10 goals in 20 games for the club. Things have turned out alright for the former Valencia player.
Given Arsenal's great start to the season, imagine how things would stand if they had managed to sign David Villa?
They are continuously linked with new strikers, as it is clear they need to bring in one to help out Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman's form has dropped off recently, and if Villa was on board, Arsenal's position could have been even stronger.
Instead they will continue in January looking for a player to give Giroud some competition. It is a shame Villa's move to The Gunners didn't come off as it would have been great to see a player of his talent in the Premier League.
