Angel di Maria is locked in controversy over his future at Real Madrid, with reports over the weekend claiming the club had accepted a move to AS Monaco for him in January.
These haven't been denied, but Carlo Ancelotti who has to ratify the move, with a €35 million fee agreed, says the player has not spoken with him directly over his future.
Di Maria caused controversy previously by storming off when substituted last weekend in a 0-0 draw against minnows Olimpo Xativa.
Now he has taken time out to praise Ancelotti's predecessor, Jose Mourinho, with not a mention of the Italian, and he was glowing about the Chelsea boss.
Here is what he had to say to Argentine newspaper Ole!
"Mourinho has made me a better player. He taught me many things, he made me grow as a footballer.
"He helped me move into position No. 9, to sacrifice myself for the tea ... I am very grateful.
"He told me that I was a real forward but I could defend. I could not rest every time we were attacked. As I returned this trust during the three years I was at Real Madrid, he put me a starter."
"He always comes at a press conference and assumes all responsibility. That's why he has a good relationship with the teams he led and that all players speak highly of him. There are many Argentines who respect Mourinho enormously."
Angel di Maria would clearly love to play for the Special One again, although it's not the case that Chelsea need the winger.
Unless he can transform himself into a Falcao, a move to Monaco remains his best bet if he wants to move on from Madrid.
