The Tottenham midfielder is a firm fans favourite at White Hart Lane, and has been full of praise for his compatriot Philippe Coutinho. The former Inter Milan playmaker has been a revelation at Anfield since his £8.5m move last January, and has drawn a number of plaudits for his performances under Brendan Rodgers.
But none will be quite so strong as Sandro's praise, who said the 21 year old can be compared to Ronaldinho, a fellow Brazilian who spent many years of his career dazzling defences for Barcelona.
“With the ball, Coutinho’s passes are like Ronaldinho’s. His passes are good, man. He doesn’t move a lot. But his passing! You think he is going to pass here and he passes there instead." said Sandro.
"He does the same as Ronaldinho. You think he’s going to do one thing, and he does something completely different. He changes. Ronaldinho was the best player, but I think their style is similar. I’m happy for him. He is young but he starts good at Liverpool. It is difficult to do that at Liverpool"
Many people consider Luis Suarez to be the key player for Liverpool, as his goals have won the Reds a lot of games, particularly this season, and whilst Sandro acknowledged the Uruguayan is a danger man up front, he warned that Coutinho is arguably just as good as the striker.
“Suarez is a great footballer and in a great spell of form. He has scored a lot of goals but we are going to push to hold him and stop him. We know he can score wherever he is on the pitch. He can do something out of nothing.
“But it is not just him. When Coutinho plays he has a good pass on him and he is an intelligent guy.”
Sunday's game between the two sides is a huge test of their top four credentials, with Liverpool just five points behind leaders Arsenal, and Tottenham a further three points back. A key battle during the game will be how Sandro can protect the back four from players like Suarez and Coutinho, with the two players vital to Liverpool's hopes.
