Arsenal and Barcelona could meet in the last 16 of the Champions League
Pro-Barcelona newspaper Mundo Deportivo has asked fans to vote on who they want the club to face in the first knock out round of the Champions League.
Barcelona finished their group campaign in the Champions League in decisive fashion as they thrashed Celtic 6-1 and produced some of their best football in Europe this season against the Scottish team.
Barcelona’s experience and ability in the Champions League definitely makes them a team to avoid but Mundo Deportivo has asked readers to vote on who they want the club to face in the last 16.
Only 9% of fans that took part, or have taken part so far, say they want a match up against English giants Arsenal, which is a tribute to the progress Arsene Wenger’s side have made so far this season.
Only two sides have a lower percentage when it comes to teams that Barca fans want their side to play in the first knock out round; Shakhtar Donetsk on 7% and FC Porto on just 5%.
As far as Arsene Wenger is concerned, he’ll be very frustrated that his team weren’t able to finish the job last night as they lost 2-0 away at Napoli which meant they finished second in their group behind Borussia Dortmund.
“To finish second makes the potential draw more difficult. In the last four or five years we had a difficult draw. Maybe this time we will be a bit luckier,” said Wenger after the game last night.
However, if the Gunners are drawn against Barcelona, their potential is clearly feared by Barcelona fans.
The Gunners produced a superb win away at Bayern Munich in the competition last season and plenty have suggested the current side is far better than the team that stepped out that evening at the Allianz Arena.
Arsenal are a team that no side will want to face in Europe this season but if the clash comes up against Barcelona, it’s a tie that could make Arsenal’s season and improve their reputation even more.
