The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has been in fine form with the Bundesliga outfit this term, scoring 12 goals and making 9 assists for Hoffenheim in all competitions.
The Brazilian had been linked with a move to the Spanish capital in January with his contract entering its final year in the summer. The Brazilian is an exception prospect for the future and Hoffenheim will be reluctant to see him depart but the player himself will likely find it difficult to turn down the opportunity to move to the La Liga giants.
Meanwhile, another player who could be tempted with a move is Atletico Madrid’s current attacking midfield maestro Koke who is the subject of speculation over his future. English champions Manchester United are understood to be monitoring the 21-year-old Spanish international who, incidentally, plays the very same role at Athletico Madrid as Firmino does at Hoffenheim.
It seems somewhat as thought the fate of the two young talents could be linked inextricably in the next transfer window as Manchester United look to boost their chances of retaining the Premier League title after a cumbersome start to life at Old Trafford for new boss David Moyes.
The Red Devils require a creative attacking midfield playmaker to take the burden off the shoulders of England Number 10 Wayne Rooney who has provided the majority of the champions’ creative play this term. Koke is exactly the kind of player David Moyes will undoubtedly be looking at in the New Year following his failed pursuit of Cesc Fabregas and Ander Herrera.
However, he may well find his pursuit of Koke more fruitful than his previous endeavours to sign a Spanish midfielder given that, by the look of it, Atletico Madrid are already preparing to replace him with a very similar player in Hoffenheim’s Robert Firmino.
