Draxler injured after decent CL display - How bad is it?

Schalke 04

The German wunderkind Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United are linked to won’t be able to play anymore in 2013, Draxler’s manager Jens Keller said.

It started to become a great night for Schalke. Winning against FC Basel in their Champions League game with 2-0, finishing second in their group and purchasing a ticket for the next stage despite losing to Chelsea twice.

Being one of four other Bundesliga teams in the knock-out stages means a lot for Schalke as they are in a time of adversity, only succeeding in four of their last ten games and sitting 6th in Bundesliga.

However yesterday night made a quick turn as captain Benedikt Howedes and Julian Draxler had to leave the game due to an injury

It looks like he won’t be able to play anymore in 2013, Draxler’s manager Jens Keller said after the game.

The German wunderkind Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United are linked to, made the first goal and had an decent display recording seven scoring opportunities, eight key passes and an overall superb defensive contribution.

Could Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho, who seems to be the front runner for a possible Draxler signing, and Arsene Wenger, who still has a shot to get the £26.5m man, hope for a discount?

Not likely. This would be just the third injury time out for Draxler. A return to the pitch straight after the Bundesliga’s winter break is expected.

Rumour had it yesterday that Schalke are trying to get a swap deal with Premier League team Chelsea in place. The deal would include Kevin de Bruyne, the Belgian attacking midfielder, recently outcast by Jose Mourinho, and Julian Draxler.

That would have made Chelsea a front runner in the Draxler race despite reports the Arsenal target talks often with Arsene Wenger and that the Gunners are favourites to sign the German international.
