2 x Champions League winner 'dreams' of Arsenal and joining Ozil

Reports in Spain claim Iker Casillas has pinpointed Arsenal as his preferred destination.

2013 has been a year to forget for Iker Casillas.

It began with him dropped for reserve goalkeeper Adan, before he picked up a broken bone in his hand - which prompted Jose Mourinho to go and sign Diego Lopez.

Even when Casillas returned to fitness, Lopez was preferred, and while it was dressed up as a personal vendetta by Mourinho - new boss Carlo Ancelotti in fact has chosen Lopez as his number one too.

It is no laughing matter for Spain's most-capped player, who has a World Cup place to compete for next summer.

It has him angling tentatively for a move in January, and if not then keen to explore his options at the end of the season if the situation has not improved.

Manchester City have been linked, he is a goalkeeper Manuel Pellegrini knows well from his time in charge at Real Madrid and Joe Hart has been far from convincing. But Iker Casillas has other ideas.

Spanish newspaper El Confidencial report that Arsenal is in fact the preferred choice of the 2 x Champions League winner and World Cup winner.

Their headline reads 'Casillas 'dreams' of playing for Arsenal if he has to leave in June'.

The report states that Casillas has previously been in Arsene Wenger's plans, who is not entirely convinced by Wojciech Szczesny despite the Pole agreeing a new contract this season. Casillas would almost certainly be an upgrade.

It adds that Arsenal are a team Casillas feels can meet his desires professionally, while Spanish international duo Nacho Monreal and Santi Cazorla can help him feel at home, along with his former Real Madrid teammate of three seasons, Mesut Ozil.

The report is quite clear that there has been no move made by the Gunners, that Casillas is purely hoping they will be an option if he decides to move on in June.

A lot can happen between now and then, and it's not a deal Arsenal fans should expect there to be any movement on in January, nor is it a priority.
